MOVABLE PARTITION concept (Competition Entry)

Sneak Peaks is a modular, mobile and lockable urban furniture system. Each module consists of a curved “wall” with a sloping profile, constructed of thin painted metal rods arrayed in an orthogonal 3D grid, and mounted on wheels. The system has mass and presence, yet it is light, durable, does not require any on-site assembly and, when not in use, can be stored off-site or left on-site as urban furniture. The walls are high enough to prevent passers-by from peering into ongoing events, but low enough to preserve views of surrounding signage. Signage, lighting and equipment can easily be attached to or hung from the modules. The Peaks’ metal-grid walls can be supplemented with metal-grid benches, pop-in shelving and hooks, adding to the system’s versatility.

The Peaks’ modularity allows for infinite configurations and event types, both indoors and out. The wheels and locking mechanism ensure that the various pieces can easily be rearranged and then fixed in place. For events with greater security needs, the Peaks can be locked together to create continuous circular or sinusoidal walls, with certain modules popped out as needed to create openings. At night these entrances can be secured by re-inserting & locking the modules into the opening. Due to their 3D grid construction, views through the Peaks are naturally obstructed.
